FAQ

How many births do you do per year?

Due to my current family commitments I am only able to offer a handful of births per year.

What if you can't make it?

If for any reason I am unable to make your birth, I will first attempt to source a replacement and if this fails I am able to offer your choice of either a full refund or a credit for future sessions within two years of your baby's birth.

What if baby is born quickly before you arrive?

I recommend letting me know when your labour begins and keeping me informed throughout the process. If however you experience a precipitous labour and baby is born before I arrive, I will still document the postpartum period as well as provide you with a newborn session within the next few weeks.

Do you attend Homebirths, Hospital Births and C Sections?

Yes. Please note that some hospitals may not allow this so it is important to get their approval first.

Homebirth is beautiful and something I love to capture.

What is your turnaround time?

For photos I aim to get these to you within three weeks of your birth however times may vary. For video this can be a longer process and times vary from 3-6 weeks. If you have specific requirements, please get in touch.

Will I feel like I am being watched?

It is a big step allowing someone into your birthing space. I have had 4 babies so I totally get it! I will do my best to be a quiet observer, in the background capturing what I see. I will use a silent shutter (unless flash is used) and during the day I may be able to avoid flash. If it is dark I will likely need to use flash unless you are against this option. The flash used isn't the 'point at your face' kind of flash, it is one that points at the ceiling and 'bounces' off the walls. Most of the time you will not notice this however I can appreciate it may be distracting to some. It will be up to you whether you would like me to use flash. The quality of images differs when we have less light so this will need to be taken into consideration when deciding if you would like flash.

Will you share my images?

I will never share your images without your consent. I am there to document your birth and the images are yours. If you decide that there are some images that you would be happy for me to share I would be grateful, however there is no obligation to ever share.

Do you require a deposit?

Yes, a $500 deposit is required upon booking with the total due at 38 weeks. I am happy to accept a payment plan.

Why is birth photography more expensive?

Births are unpredictable. A birth photographer is on call from 38 weeks which means that their life can be put on hold for up to 4 weeks. Being on call can significantly impact family time and requires a lot of organisation regarding the last minute care of children. A photographer may also be at your birth for 4-12+ hours. Then there is the editing process which can be quite substantial. For this reason, it is important that birth photographers charge adequately for their time.

Will you capture everything? What is the style you will capture?

Prior to your birth we will discuss what you would love to try and capture. Birth can be fast and unpredictable so there will be no guarantees on what we capture, however rest assured I will do everything in my power to capture the story of your birth in the way that you would like it to be captured.

My style of photography for birth is documentary. I will capture moments as they happen in front of me. Other than a little gentle posing with your new baby if we get the opportunity, it will be raw, natural and perfectly imperfect.

Will you capture photo and video at the same time?

As there is just one of me, we will discuss what your priority is when booking a photo and video package. I will always have two cameras at your birth and will set up a tripod to capture the birth from a distance from one, and I will capture both photos and video throughout the process on my other camera.

We will need to discuss what your priority is when it comes to your baby arriving, if you would like up close/from afar, video or stills. I am also able to offer a second shooter if you would like a dedicated photographer and a dedicated film maker. Adding a dedicated film maker is $2,200 and dependent on availability.
